​This initiative focused on understanding how the platform economy influences job opportunities and identifying specific challenges encountered by Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) in this area. Additionally, the project contributed to the discourse on platform business models by introducing a novel concept that aids in distinguishing and categorizing various types of these models.

Besides the pre-study itself, two additional deliverables were included in the pre-study report:

• "Digital Business Design" toolkit, that was made openly available under Creative Commons, designed to assist SME businesses in designing and developing their business and operations strategically in the digital platform economy and navigating the shift from traditional business models and optimisation to platform business models and ecosystem-based value creation
• 100 different platform-based business ideas from various industries and sectors to inspire and help leverage the latest technology, including AI models and the latest innovations
